Early Spring is when the lawn "wakes up" entering into a natural growth cycle where the root system starts to grow and build carbohydrate (energy) reserves. If lawn was fertilized during late fall, then you do not need to fertilize it 'till late spring.Otherwise, if this is the first time you are taking care of your lawn, we suggest to use a blend of nitrogen based fertilizer to rejuvenate your lawn from the harsh winter weather.
